The Vegan Yacht

When I heard the name: Frito Pie, my lunch was set in stone! Austin is all about the food trucks. If I had the time, I would have loved to do a full food truck tour! The Vegan Yacht is solo in a very cute lot that is perfect for a nice day like I had this day. Don't like to wait for your food? Well go ahead and have fun with a hula hoop you can find next to the brick wall! Nice touch :)

Having never had a frito pie before, I did not know what to expect at all; but I can't imagine it being better anywhere else! As you can see they did not skimp in the avocado, which happens many places. It was huge with many layers of beans, fritos, cheese and avocado. Very fresh and extremely filling! So when in Austin, make sure you stop by this truck!

We went through quite a lot of waiting in order to try this place out. This is the only vegan restaurant in Dallas and is the classic diner style ... something I have yet to come across! On the menu it says "You can trust that we don’t use anything that comes from an animal or insect source. You don’t even have to ask". I was unsure why that needed stating, but that was until I had the food. To the left is my friend's dish which was pot pie soup with an herb biscuit. (Yes, I ate some of hers). The soup was so creamy that I did a double take and had to reassure myself that I was in a vegan restaurant!

My sausage and cheese sandwich was

also on the herb biscuit and was just

perfect. I mean, look at it! I need this recipe to make this myself.

When I left Dallas, I swung by for some road food for my drive as well. The biscuits and gravy which was just as creamy and delicious as the soup. Best gravy I think I have ever had!

When waiting for Spiral Diner to open at 11am, my friend and I went a couple doors down for some mimosas. Very much unplanned, but absolutely a great happenstance moment! Now, this is not a vegan or vegetarian restaurant, but they do have options. When our waiter heard I was vegan, he informed me the chef had wanted to practice his vegan pancakes. After a couple mimosas, we decided we could eat pancakes and still go to Spiral Diner after! Glad we did because these pancakes were the best I have had and my non vegan friend agreed. They had blueberries and pecans clusters as a topping. Hoping that our good review will urge them to put vegan on their menu, so stop by and add your encouragement as well!
